CA - Beached as

As we wrapped up the year with our final CA adventure, the anticipation among the teen boys for a weekend getaway by the seaside was palpable.

A sunny sausage sizzle in the northern part of the state gave us great hope that the sunshine would spread down to the coastal crown of the bay, Rosebud. Rolling down the coast, the clouds seemed to take over the sky.

This change in outside temperature did not deter the boys’ ability to jump into the weekend. With the heavens beginning to open, we quickly got our shelters, including the kitchen, up so that we could head out to the sand and surf calling our name.

The warm water welcomed us in and kept us there, out of the harsh winds and away from the rain. An afternoon of swimming was summated with a splash along the sands up and over the waves along the pier, where jumping was the afternoon sport.

Dinner that night saw the introduction of spice-covered chicken tender Souva’s (now considered a landmark decision); with light showers coming down, the activities were reduced to campsite card games and some yarns under the protection of the tarp.

Saturday morning rolled around with the sound of raindrops on tents, though this was short-lived. As it passed, a hot breakfast passed through the mouths of many hungry boys, getting them fueled up for the day, which had a bit in store.

Slip, slop, slap, and the rest, and out into the sun, we ventured. Snorkels, Surfboards, and sandcastles took up the morning. We played some beach games and then explored the beach’s far end, past the sailboats and seagulls.

When the afternoon turned nasty, the boys took full advantage of the warm showers and got cozy, ready for some chocolate mousse followed by burgers and some entertainment around the campsite.

As always, the pack-up took everyone's best efforts, and we were able to get up and out of there before the rain set in. However, our BBQ area for early lunch was a different story; sausages and moist bread had us getting out of there in a hurry, thankful this burst of rain had only decided to hit up after the trip.
