Inaugural FCA
Well, the day finally arrived; this daring group travelled out into the wilderness to find out about themselves, others and the environment.
The weather starkly contrasted with the sunny school holidays, but with some warm jumpers and matching raincoats, we snuggled in around the BBQ, smelling the sweet, layered smell of onions. After we ate, another quick drive was to our campsite nestled under Mt. Charlie.
Jae’s maps decided that she had a four-wheel drive, and she, unbeholden by her hatchback’s capabilities, decided to go ahead, guns blazing. This turned into a side mission very quickly, as the puddles along the track quickly outgrew her car. But what’s a camping trip without a bit of misadventure?
Arriving at the campground, we were pleased to see we had our place. Tents were up in record time, with everybody pitching in. So we unloaded the remaining gear and said goodbye to Ferg. There are no stinky boys out here.
The fire was up in no time, and our coals were ready to make our first night’s dinner, spaghetti bolognese; delicious was the night's call, and that was before the next course of S’Moreos, which was a crowd favourite.
The night came with a visitor in the form of koalas, creating a stir in the trees. Though they hid very well, their noise kept us awake for a long time.
Saturday rolled around, and the birds were up early as the sun came out to play. After eating bacon, eggs, and other treats, we got the day rolling with movement and gratitude, thanks to Belle’s exceptional knowledge and skill.
There were Low ropes and initiative courses throughout the Camp Ground, so we gave these a go and came out feeling united as a group—still no stinky boys; how nice.
At lunch, we filled up on jaffles and snacks to have a little siesta sitting around the fire, the footy being kicked in the background as our rest turned into some craft time, where our nature journals were personalised and imprinted with memories that we will return to next time.
The potatoes were covered by coals and baked to perfection. With our scrumptious spread of toppings, we were living the life.
A night walk turned into a bear hunt, as we needed to make sure that spooky furball wouldn’t keep us up all night again. Alas, it couldn't be found; however, the stars were out to play, and we looked to them to bring a sense of awe to our adventure, with the campers sharing stories about the night sky and what it meant to them.
Dessert brought an incredible feeling to our stomach; Smoreo’s an instant classic.
We were all tired from the day and slept like rocks.
Sunday morning pack-up was seamless as everyone pulled their weight; off we went to our lunch, waiting at Camp Kiah. Great success was a feeling upon arrival, and why not? We had a magnificent weekend in nature and without those stinky boys.
Signing off,
